Applications are now being accepted for a full-time position of Network Engineer located in Whitehorse, YT.
The Network Engineer is responsible for managing and optimizing Northwestel’s infrastructure resources as they pertain to the commercial video distribution network including capacity management, optimizing system performance and providing configuration intelligence
to assist in proactively ensuring that adequate network and OSS (Operational Support Systems) capability is provided for current and future needs. This network is a shared resource and consequently must be optimized in cooperation with other services including,
but not limited to, consumer internet access. In addition, this position provides technical support to ensure network needs are technically feasible, promptly and accurately addressed, tracked and planned through the close interface with Planning with input
from Operations and all known business requirements. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Plan and manage capacity for the elements of the video distribution network. 2. Build engineering recommendations, and network deployment plans. 3. Complete designs, or participate
in design reviews and provide input into cutover plans. 4. Provide technical support to field technicians as required. 5. Proactively support the management of operational problems through to solution, thus ensuring optimum utilization and performance of assets.
6. Asset optimization and repurposing. 7. Predicting and reporting assets replacement requirements based on age, ROI, capacity etc. – this includes ensuring that records are maintained for the various elements of the network to ensure accurate information
is maintained. 8. Release Management, including patch management (or) coordination of patches. 9. Change management (overall coordination of change) on the assets being monitored. 10. The incumbent is required to keep abreast of new technologies and changes
in technologies and identify their training requirements.
Relevant Engineering Degree with 2+ years of relevant experience and/or Technical Diploma with 4+ years or relevant experience
Advanced knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) engineering
Advanced knowledge of Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) networking
Advanced knowledge of Cable Head End technologies
Advanced knowledge of Cable internet technologies
Experience with SAP or an ERP preferred.
