We are currently accepting resumes for the full-time Cable Splicer position located in Iqaluit, NU.


  1. Install and maintain all aerial and underground Outside Plant facilities (fibre, copper, and coax) and related hardware.
  2. Provide as-built drawing(s) and data for records via computer system, upon completion of work,
  3. On site preparation of cut-over sheets, update maps and records as required.
  4. Provide proper care, operation and safe keeping of all tools, equipment and vehicles as assigned.  
  5. Ensure all safety rules, company standards, policies and regulations of the position are followed.
  6. Complete and maintain the flow of reports and correspondence as required.        
  7. May be required at times to perform service related duties.
  8. Travel throughout our Operating Territory is required.
  9. Understand and use test gear related to copper, coax, and fibre.
  10. Accurately complete/prepare documentation for all type of outages and threats or a MOP for major cutover and ensure that all the proper parties are involved.
  11. Contact and work with customers to minimize the impact of service interruptions or degradation, per Company protocol.
  12. Accurately locate Northwestel underground plant and complete associated documentation for the customer and for company records.
  13. May be required to do quality inspection on work done by contractors and peers.
  14. May be required to troubleshoot and repair microwave transmission lines and satellite dishes.
  15. Must be able to perform physical duties as required, including working aloft, using equipment provided by NWTel.
  16. Must be able to work effectively as a team member.


  • Completed technical diploma in telecommunications or related program at a recognized institute and/or a minimum of one (1) year cable splicing experience with copper, fibre and coax. 
  • Must hold a valid class 5 drivers licence and the ability to obtain up to a Class 1 with an air endorsement may be required.
  • Computer literacy (including software Windows XP, MS Office).
  • Must have a good understanding of the theory behind copper, fibre and coax.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • As part of the recruitment process for this position, candidates may be required to take pre-employment tests and/or complete work simulation exercise to assess job fit.
