Title: Controller
Reports to: Vice President, Finance
Based at: Wolf Steel Ltd., Barrie ON

Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Controller will provide a critical link between finance and all manufacturing facilities with a key focus on Canadian and US operations. The Controller will ensure consistent operation accounting principles and quality standard costing is applied across all divisions, and also ensure inventory and reporting accuracy. The Controller will help drive continuous improvement implementation and continuation of the LEAN manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
• Work collaboratively with Operations, R&D, Sales and Finance to support improved customer profitability results. Perform detail analyses at Customer, Product and Plant floor level to improve added value and profit margin.
• Liaison with engineering divisions to ensure bill of material, routing and thru-put is in alignment with new or existing product development.
• Preparation of Cost Estimate for the Engineering and Sales divisions. Analysis of costing standards for each SKU at each plant. Actual to estimate customer job performance and recommend changes to improve results. Coordinate costing of new sku’s with the help of Sales and Engineering.
• Manage Cost Analyst with analysis of costing standards at each SKU level. Daily, weekly and monthly review of cost changes and ensure the accuracy of standard costs.
• Perform required accurate month-end duties for P&L reporting and analysis for all sites.
• Assist with monthly consolidation reports for management reporting requirements.
• Monitor each site generated reporting and analysis for accuracy and consistency. Identify variances and their underlying causes.
• Perform detailed analyses - Material, Product Efficiencies, Price, Volume, Mix and Dollars, Trends Year over year.
• Variance and root cause analysis to identify business drivers, impediments, risks and opportunities.
• Manage retail store operations, financial reporting, and driving continuous improvements to process. Also assess & evaluate weekly/monthly/quarterly results & report to both Operations and Store Management.
• Provide assistance and support for the accounting team, generate ad-hoc and value added financial analysis.
• Conduct plant studies to validate standard vs actual data and identify improvement opportunities. Analyze machine capacity performance and profitability, and support operation management in driving for improved financial and operating results. Identify areas for cost improvements, waste and scrap reduction, obsolescence and trends analyses.
• Provide weekly/monthly Inventory Valuation Reports to senior management, ensuring accuracy and reporting on discrepancies as they arrive. Coordinate and prepare Inventory COGS reconciliation and related journal entries
• Standardize cost accounting procedures across a complex, multi-site operation resulting in a more “value-add” operation deliverable and quality standard costing.
• Develop an expertise in all aspects of operational accounting with the issues relating to bill of material and inventory movement on new and existing product groups
• Provide quantitative analysis to support Budget, Strategic and Operating business decisions. Provide accurate, timely and relevant responses to management queries and requests.
• Ownership of results mentality and behavior towards costs control, costs containment and profit margin. Drive cost savings initiatives and prepare KPI reports and analysis.
• Develop strong understanding of plant operations and product costing to provide centralized costing leadership and inventory controls
• Manage and oversee physical inventory for all sites, including the NHC and Porcelin Tech.
• Create and assist in the implementation and development of new systems and processes. Other ad hoc projects as necessary.

Education and Experience:
• Degree BA\BS\B.comm in Economics, Accounting & Finance from a recognized University in Business Administration. A professional Accounting designation is preferred.
• Must have three (3) years progressive experience in operation, costing, accounting and financial analysis. Prior experience within a CPG environment is considered a strong asset
• Experience and comfortable working in a Plant floor and Engineering environment.
• Proactive and meticulous attention in working with detail data.
• Process driven with experience documenting and continuously improving procedures
