Title: CAD Designer

Reports to: Manager R&D Grills

Shift: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday

Based at: Wolf Steel Ltd. #214

Job Purpose:
Work within the Product Design Team to generate new product designs and configurations using the latest tools and design principles. Continuously improve current designs to meet the needs of new and changing markets and incorporate improved manufacturing processes. Ensure products meet customer needs, safety standards of various jurisdictions and the manufacturing capabilities of the organization

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
• Create 3D parts, assemblies, and detailed drawings in SolidWorks
• Research competitive products and current trends, apply them appropriately to product design
• Develop innovative new designs, features and accessories
• Work closely with sales and marketing groups to ensure product designs address market needs and exceed customer expectations
• Set up and review BOMs, manuals, packaging and labels for new product configurations and designs
• Review prototypes for construction and cost
• Ensure products meet the design intent, are manufacturable, meet cost targets, customer needs and required safety standards

Education and Experience:
• Must have a College Diploma or University Degree in related discipline (i.e. Engineering Technology, Product Design, Industrial Design)
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a related industry, manufacturing industry or engineering environment
• Proficient in Solidworks and/or other 3D CAD packages
• Must have knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
• Knowledge of design for manufacturability – including stamping, forming, die casting and injection molding will be considered an asset
• Skilled in manufacturing and assembly processes
• Knowledge of technical writing principles to create product manuals, will be considered an asset
